Tomlex is located in Wellington, New Zealand, and carries out EN-NL and NL-EN translations for different agencies and direct clients from around the world. Tomlex is run by Esther Hay, who is a full member of the New Zealand Society of Translators and Interpreters and can provide certified translations of official documents. Esther is approved by the New Zealand Transport Agency to supply English translations of Dutch language driver licences.
Where appropriate, Trados is used during the translation process and we always create a glossary for each client so that terminology is consistent throughout the project as well as in future jobs.
Subtitling can be carried out with or without a template and with or without a script. Tomlex uses EZTitles and Swift subtitling software, as well as clients’ own online subtitling tools.
Proofreading & Editing
Own translations are always proofread and checked for spelling, grammar, punctuation, typesetting, terminology, register and style. Where necessary, target texts are edited to comply with space or time restrictions, such as in translations of voice-over scripts or newsletter segments.
Tomlex can also proofread and edit work of other translators. This can be done with the source text for comparison or as a single language edit to ensure the target text produced appears as if written in that language originally.
Sometimes only an audio or video file is available while clients need a written version of it. Tomlex can provide speedy (time coded) transcriptions, combined with a translation if necessary.
We can provide full accessibility scripts for online content, based on a provided audio script, subtitles or from scratch.
